The Prayers and Squares ministry at St. John’s is a compassionate outreach dedicated to intertwining prayer, community, and craft. Our Prayers and Squares teams sew handmade quilts, offering something tangible for those who need extra comfort that they can hold and remind them of God's love and the prayers of our parish.

Our ministry is rooted in:

  • Healing Through Prayer: Every quilt is blessed, both by those sewing it and when prayed for by our priest and parish. During Sunday services, congregants tie knots into each quilt, offering individual prayers for the recipient’s comfort and strength.

  • Crafting with Purpose: Quilts are thoughtfully designed and stitched by ministry members, with a cross sewn into every quilt as a reminder of Christ’s presence. Each includes a label stating, “Made with love, hope, and prayers.

  • Symbols of Love and Hope: Quilts serve as a spiritual comfort, reminding recipients they are not alone. Whether brought to hospital bedsides, homes, or places of mourning, they carry the assurance of God’s healing grace.

Quilts have been shared locally, across the nation, and even overseas, offering solace to children, families, veterans, and individuals navigating illness or loss. While not all who receive a quilt are cured, the ministry seeks to bring peace and the knowledge that God walks alongside them.
